TN minister introduces two Bills, elevating Municipalities
Chennai, May 9 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Local Administration Minister M K Stalin today introduced two Bills, elevating Vellore and Tuticorin Municipalities as Corporation.
Once the Bills were passed, the total strength of Corporations in Tamil Nadu would go up to ten. From six Corporations, the State Government had elevated Erode and Tiruppur Municipalities as Corporations and Vellore and Tuticorin were now added to it.
According to statement of objects of the Bill, Vellore was a historical and heritage town and has many reputed medical and eductional Institutions.
A large number of leather Industries were situated around Vellore town. Further a Special Economic Zone(SEZ) and IT parks were coming up in the area.
''In order to meet the growing infrastructure facilities, the Government has decided to upgrade the Vellore Municipality as City Municipal Corporation'', it added.
The elevation of Tuticorin as Corporation followed an announcement made by Mr Stalin in the Assembly that Tuticorin town was one of the fast developing towns and with fast Industrialisation, growing activities of Port and the proposed Sethusamudram Canal project, the infrastructure facilities of the town and the adjoiing areas need to be improved on a massive scale.
''Hence the Government decided to upgrade Tuticorin as a Corporation'', the statement of objects of the Bill said.
