Freedom of Press under new constitution demanded in Nepal

Kathmandu, May 7 : Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) on Wednesday demanded a guarantee for the Freedom of Press under the new constitution of Nepal.

FNJ will work upon formulating the Working Journalists' Act and for the protection of media persons' rights, said Dharmendra Jha, the newly elected President of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists, during a welcome programme here.

"We need journalists' suggestions on the areas we should work upon," Kantipur quoted Dharmendra Jha as saying.

Dharmendera Jha was chosen as the new President for three-year term on Sunday during the 22nd General Convention of Federation of Nepalese Journalists.

Govinda Acharya was elected as the Vice President, Poshan K.C as the General Secretary, Ramji Dahal as the secretary and Ramesh Bista as the Treasurer of the federation.

Dharmendra Jha, Poshan K.C and Ramji Dahal were representing the democratic panel while the revolutionary panel supported by Maoists was represented by Acharya.
