K'taka: Farmer couple commits suicide
Chamarajanagara (Karnataka), Apr 8: Unable to repay the mounting debts, a farmer couple today committed suicide by consuming poision in this town today.
Police said the issue-less couple -- Rangaswamy (60) and Vijayalakshmi (54), hailing from Tamil Nadu but settled in the town for a long time, owned less than an acre of land and had grown sugarcane.
However they could not sell their crop as no one came to buy the produce. They had no other means to service the loans taken a bank and from money lenders. This forced them to commit suicide, neighbours said.
As they had no relatives, the neighbours performed the last rites, police added.
