Govt dismantles buffer stock from May 1, 2008, allows to sell sugar
New Delhi, Apr 1 (UNI) The Government has decided to dismantle the first buffer stock of 20 lakh tonne sugar created from May 1, 2007 to April 30, 2008, on its due date effective from May 1, 2008.
With dismantling of the buffer stock, the sugar factories are allowed to sell the quantity held in buffer in respect of the buffer stock of 20 lakh tonne in the domestic market at any point of time during the 2007-08 sugar season from May1 , 2008 onwards without the requirement of release orders from the Directorate of sugar for that quantity, an official release said here today.
The Government has also released 44 lakh tonne of non-levy (free sale) sugar for the quarter April-June 2008. For the month of April, 2008, the quota would be 17 lakh tonne and for the months of May and June 2008, the quota would be 27 lakh tonne.
In addition, 1.87 lakh tonne sugar has been released under levy sugar for distribution through the Public Distribution System for the month of April, 2008. Thus, the total sugar released in the month of April, 2008 is 18.87 lakh tonne which would be sufficient to meet the internal demand for sugar, the release added.
