37 held for selling banned lottery tickets
Karur, Mar 25 (UNI) Police arrested 37 persons on the charge of selling banned lottery tickets and seized Rs seven lakh worth lottery tickets, 24 mobile phones, two-wheelers, laptops and cash from them here yesterday.
Police said a special team led by Deputy Inspector General of Police (Tiruchirapalli range) Ashok Kumar Dass raided five places in the city and effected the seizure.
A hunt was on to nab Selvaraj, said to be the main supplier of the banned lottery tickets to small traders in and around Karur.
In another raid, police arrested five persons, including a town panchayat councillor and seized banned lottery tickets from them at Iluppur in Pudukkottai district of Tamil Nadu yesterday.
Acting on a tip-off, police conducted surprise raids and arrested Palani (45), Iluuppur town panchayat councillor, Meera Mohideen (60), Sabiyullah (35), Mohammed Zakaria (27) and Chinnathambi (57), police added.
