Jammu, Mar 19 (UNI) Santoor Maestro Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma would perform live at a concert here tomorrow to pay homage to great musician of yesteryears late Pandit Umar Dutt Sharma.
Pandit Shiv Kumar, while interacting with the mediapersons on the eve of his live performance today said, ''I am here to pay tributes to my father and a great musician late Pandit Uma Dutt Sharma.'' ''I belong to this place (Jammu) and I have been trained and taught by my 'gurus' here and after so many years today, what do I have earned, is all due to their blessings and teachings,'' the santoor maestro said.
Commenting upon the western influence in Indian music, the maestro said, ''Globalization is the reason behind the classical music losing its identity. Various options have been offered to the people, which has direct effect on the indian classics,'' the musician told UNI asserting, ''though we have rich cultural heritage in the old Indian classics but now a days, music depends upon the taste and demand.'' Meanwhile the maestro suggested the corporate houses to come forward in promoting and keeping the classical music alive.
''I and Tabla Maestro Zakir Hussain (son of late Ustad Allahrakha Khan saheb) have roots in Jammu and Kashmir and i assure you that both of us will perform for the people of the region here in the city of temples,'' Pandit Shiv Kumar said.
Pandit Shiv Kumar along with Yogesh Samsi on the Tabla, would be performing tomorrow in general Zorawar Singh auditorium at University of Jammu.
