New Delhi, Mar 17 (UNI) NDA Convenor and former Defence Minister George Fernandes today accused the Indian government of ''quietly surrendering'' to China on the Tibetan issue and said that China has become the ''new colonialist'' which wants to swallow all democracies.
In a statement, Mr Fernandes termed it as a ''shame'' that Parliament has not even attempted to pass a resolution to condemn the ''war'' that has been waged by China against the Tibetans which meant to destroy the Tibetans along with their culture, language, religion and everything that is Tibetan.
''The Marxists and the Congress have surrendered to the Chinese without even making an effort,'' he alleged and called upon all his colleagues to stand up for Tibetan demands to be heard and to be treated with dignity and sympathy.
He said while rest of the world have been, for the last few days, making efforts to drill some sense into the minds of the Chinese, the Indian government has quietly surrendered.
He questioned the government as to why it was not daring to speak against the Chinese and wondered whether the Centre was prepared to deal with 1962 like situation. China has already surrounded the country from Himalayas through Pakistan going down to Rajasthan and in the North East by feeding money and ammunition to those militants who have been fighting to separate themselves from the country, he pointed out.
According to Mr Fernandes, China wanted to become number one military power in the world and has already become ''imperialist'' in the way it has been dealing with the smaller countries. ''It is a ravenous dragon which I believe wants to swallow all the democracies of the world and I dare say that China has become the new colonialist,'' he said.
