Doctors from Manipur to participate in 18th Congress IPPNW

New Delhi, Mar 8: Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari will inaugurate a three-day-long 18th World Congress of the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW) here tomorrow.

The Indian Doctors for Peace and Development (IDPD) would host the event. The theme is peace, health and development.

Around eight doctors, 10 medical students from the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal and 28 performing artistes from Manipur would take part in the Congress.

Vice President of the IDPD Dr M Nara Singh said doctors from Manipur included MLA Dr Borajao, Dr Ksh Chourajit Singh, Dr L Jogamani, Superintendent of AIIMS Dr I B Singh and Dr Nandini Elangbam.

During the three-day Congress, 25 workshops on different topics would also be held. The event would address the issue of the emerging challenges in a nuclear army race, small arms violence and health, globalisation as well as emerging security and environment.

At least 800 delegates from 60 countries were expected to attend the Congress, he added.

Dr M Nara Singh would chair the workshop 'War on Terror-Need for New Vision' to be held tomorrow while Dr S S Soodan from India would present his paper on the topic.

The artistes from Manipur would perform about 20 dance items under the title 'Dances of India' on the next two days, said a Manipur Government release issued here today.
