Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Dr G S G Ayyangar told media here today that due to faulty applications seeking postal ballots about 1800 eligible voters would not be able to vote this time.

The commission has launched the facility of issuing postal ballots on an experimental basis, which would be replicated in subsequent elections including Meghalaya and Nagaland with due modification of the procedure.

Besides, 16,000 polling personnel and 6000 police personnel and roughly about 4000 drivers, helpers and cleaners were allowed to cast postal ballots for the first time in a transparent distribution system, Dr Ayyangar added.
