Honours conferred for neurosurgeon, pathologist

Vijayawada, Feb 18: Noted Neurosurgeon Sunkara Balaparameswara Rao and Famous Pathologist Chintala Raja Rama Mohan Reddy have been conferred with honorary degree of 'Doctor of Science' by Dr NTR University of Health Sciences (NTRUHS) Vice-Chancellor A V Krishnam Raju here today.

The degrees were given away at the XII Convocation of the University held at Sri Thummalapallivari Kshetrayya Kalakshetram. Dr Rao is recipient of many awards and honours, including the Dr B C Roy National Award for developing neurosurgery in Andhra Pradesh.

He is considered as 'Father of neurosurgery' as he started the Department of Neurosurgery in April 1956 and published 81 scientific papers in national and international journals.

Dr Reddy is a renowned academician and former Director of Medical Education in Andhra Pradesh.

He was a member of Expert Advisory Panel on Smoking and Health of WHO (Geneva) between 1978 and 1983 and a member of many international medical associations like British Medical Association, Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene and New York Academy of Sciences.

He won many national awards including the Sandoz Oration Award of ICMR and has to his credit more than 65 publications in international journals and more than 187 publications in national journals.
