Over 54,000 water associations brought under participatory managemen
New Delhi, Feb 11 (UNI) Responding to the dictats of the Water Resources Ministry, 13 states in the country had enacted Participatory Irrigation Management (PIM) in 2007 covering over 54,000 Water Users Associations and 12.32 million hectares of land.
The states which have brought in legislation involving various government agencies and the stakeholders are Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Orissa, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu. The Ministry had circulated the draft bill on PIM to provide legal and organisational framework for the beneficiary participation in managing the irrigation waters, official sources said.
