Lok Adalats settle record 4600 cases in Kashmir

Srinagar, Feb 8: For the first time in the judicial history of Kashmir, Lok adalats settled a record 4600 cases and awarded Rs four crore compensation during the past three days.

Despite heavy snowfall, closure of roads and other difficulties thousands of litigants thronged the courts to get justice and settle their long pending cases through Lok Adalats.

At Srinagar, a mega Adalat was held by 14 Judges who settled 1536 cases.

In motor accident claims and consumer matters an amount of Rs 2.76 lakhs was awarded to the litigants while in cases related to minor offences all 117 petitions were settled with courts recovering fine of Rs 4.1 lakhs.

Taking up pre-litigation cases, the adalats settled claims of over Rs 1.34 crores and relief of Rs 50 lakhs was given to the creditors who had taken bank loans.

In Anantnag District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Shafi Khan, settled 1048 cases out of 1500.

The lok adalat disposed 29 motor accident claims cases out of 30 and awarded compensation of Rs 76.10 lakhs to the litigants.

Similar lok adalats were held in other parts of the valley where long pending cases were settled.
