Aizawl, Feb 08 (UNI) The Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee today alleged that that Tuirial hydel-project has been ruined by the ruling Mizo National Front.

However, it stated that Congress president Lal Thanhawla's efforts will soon help in the project's resumption.

Union Power Ministry joint secretary J Kawale in a letter to the Prime Minister, a copy of which has been sent to Lal Thanhawla, has clearly mentioned that the project was suspended following excessive compensation and picketing of the workers by Chief Minister Zoramthanga's brother and his accomplices, the Congress alleged.

It also accused of the large scale diversion of funds by the MNF government adding that the estimated cost should to be revised with an additional amount of Rs 320 crores without any upgradation in the capacity.

Despite this constraint, the power ministry has tried every efforts to fulfil Mr Lal Thanhawla's request to resume the project, which was initiated during the Congress government, the statement said.

The DoNER ministry has not approved the request of Rs 200 crore following the MNF's failure to meet the requirements demanded by the ministry, Mr Kawale informed Mr Lal Thanhawla.

The Tuirial hydel project was initiated during Lal Thanghawla-led Congress ministry in Mizoram.
