30 PDS dealers' licence cancelled in December
Chandigarh, Feb 6 (UNI) The Haryana Food and Supplies Department has cancelled 30 licences of erring Public Distribution System (PDS) dealers besides forfeiting security amounting to Rs 59,810 of 277 erring dealers during December last year.
While stating this here today, Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan said that to ensure effective check over the fair price shops, village level committees of members of panchayats and others had been constituted to supervise the distribution of controlled commodities.
He said that during December, 13 new fair price shops were opened for ensuring proper distribution of PDS items, out of which 12 shops were set up in rural areas while one in urban areas.
9551 fair price shops are functioning in the state, out of which 2677 are in the urban areas and 6874 in rural areas, Mr Chander Mohan said.
He said that total 43 cases were registered with the police and 29 people were arrested and 515 licences were cancelled besides security forefeited of 1571 persons from April 1 to December, 31, 2007.
