Women demand stringent anti-liquor law in Bihar
Patna, Jan 30 : Women took to the streets here today demanding stringent anti-liquor laws in Bihar.
The protest coincided with the 60th death anniversary of Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, who strongly campaigned for ban on liquor.
Carrying placards and banners, protesters shouted anti-liquor slogans and broke liquor bottles to express their anger.
"We will carry out the agitation in each and every part of the State. We want that the government should bring anti-liquor law in the State," said Asha Devi, a protester.
Many women blame liquor consumption for violence against women, including rape.
"Most instances of violence against women take place under the influence of liquor. We want to put a stop to all that by demanding a ban on liquor sales in the State," said Sushma Sinha, another protester.
Despite many laws banning illegal liquor sales in the country, not much has been done and such units continue to thrive.
