Arrival of bodies for cremation almost doubles

Varanasi, Jan 4 (UNI) The number of bodies for the last rites at two crematoriums Manikarnika ghat and Harish Chandra ghat has almost doubled following intense cold wave.

Majority of the bodies belong to people, who have crossed the age of 60 yrs.

According to sources at Manikarnika ghat, the arrival of bodies, which was 45-50 per day earlier has now reached about 80-100 daily after the second week of December last year.

Besides, the number of bodies at the historic Harish Chandra ghat, which was 15-20 per day has touched 25-30.

Meanwhile, the movement of trains and flights was affected following cold wave and dense fog.

The district administration had ordered the closure of all educational institutions upto standard VIII till tomorrow following sweeping cold wave.
