Former MLA injured, his driver killed in bomb attack

Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, Dec 31 (UNI) Former Chittoor MLA C K Babu and three others were seriously injured, while his car driver was killed in a bomb attack at Kattamanchi area here today.

Police said the incident occurred when the car, carrying Mr Babu, District Youth Congress President Siva Reddy and two gunmen, was crossing a culvert.

The car was completely damaged under the impact of the explosion.

The injured were immediately rushed to the Government Hospital here, where the car driver succumbed to injuries. Later, the injured were shifted to the Christian Medical College at Vellore in neighbouring Tamil Nadu.

Following the incident, police imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC in the area.

On information, bomb disposal squads along with sniffer dogs rushed to the spot and recovered an unexploded bomb, kept underneath the culvert.

Mr Babu had earlier escaped a bid on his life on February nine last, when a gang of eight unidentified persons tried to storm his office and gun him down.
