Nuclear power stations at states devoid of coal and water options

Kota, Dec 30 (UNI) Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd(NPCIL) chairman and managing director Dr S K Jain said the corporation would give priority to those states where the option of coal and water based power projects were not feasible.

While talking to newspersons at the Rajasthan atomic power station in Rawatbhata he said states like Rajasthan and Maharashtra where the option of coal based power project is not feasible would get priority in nuclear based power projects.

With the completion of ongoing nuclear power units the total generation of nuclear power would increase to 3380 MW, he added.

It may be noted that fifth and sixth units (220MW) of the Rajasthan atomic power station in Rawatbhata are under construction while the central government has given the green signal for the setting up of seventh and eighth units there with the capacity of 700 MW .

He added that construction of two nuclear power units with a capacity of 220 MW each are on at Kema in Karnataka while a unit with capacity of 500 MW at Kalpakam and two units with capacity of 1000 MW Kumbakonam in Tamil Nadu are under construction in the country.
