Dantewada, Dec 17 (UNI) Chhattisgarh police have arrested V S Mankar, jailer of Dantewada sub-jail from where nearly 300 prisoners, including naxalites, had escaped yesterday.
Police sources said the arrest was made after a detailed interrogation of Mr Mankar about the circumstances that led to the escape of prisoners. He was arrested late this evening.
A case has been registered against him under the sections 128, 129 and 130 of Indian Penal Code that deals with facilitating escape of prisoners by a public servant, police said.
Nearly 300 prisoners, including naxalites, had escaped from the sub-jail in Dantewada, one of the worst-naxalite affected districts in the country.
Earlier, the state government had suspended Deputy Inspector General (Jails) P D Verma holding him responsible for security lapse in the prison.
