TN officials take steps to prevent illegal sand quarrying
Puducherry, Nov 25 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Revenue Authorities have taken steps to prevent illegal sand quarrying from the Sankarabharani River, near here.
According to police sources, following a tip off, the Revenue authorities today raided the Ammanamkuppam Village, near Sellippattu Village and found 600 lorry loads of sand stored at vacant housing plot. The authorities later sold the sand with a proper bill.
The modus operandi of the villagers were they would indulge in illegal sand quarrying and store them at different places in their village. When customers came, they would fix a price and sell it.
