Bangalore, Nov 21 (UNI) Senior JD(S) leader M P Prakash today said his party legislators were ready to support the Congress in forming a new government in Karnataka.

Talking to mediapersons here, he said though the President's rule was imposed, formation of a new government was possible in the state.

''There is still time for approving the Presidential proclamation in Parliament. If the Congress really wanted, it can put in efforts to form a government,'' he said.

To queries, he said over 35 MLAs had either telephoned to him or personally met him and discussed the move to support the Congress.

''Even Party Supremo H D Deve Gowda is not averse to this as he himself had earlier suggested to explore such possibilities,'' he said, adding that majority of the legislators did not want to face the elections at present.

Mr Prakash said he had not met any Congress leader so far, after the fall of Yeddyurappa government, to discuss the idea.

However, if there was any initiative from the Congress, he would not be against it.

''Finally, if there is no positive response from the Congress then there is no other alternative but to face polls,'' he added.

''Though I had decided not to contest the next general elections, I would remain in active politics,'' he added.
