Bangalore, Nov 13 (UNI) Intel, global leader in Silicon innovation, today announced the launch of world's first 45 nanometer Hafnium-Based High-K Metal Gate 16 server and high-end PC processors.
Talking to newspersons here, R Ravichandran, Director, Sales Intel South Asia, described the launch of world's first lead-free product as a breakthrough achievement of the Intel team that designed and manufactured it.
He said the new product, which comes with 16 server high-end PC processor, was built on using an entirely new transistor formula that alleviated the wasteful electricity lead, which had threatened the pace of future computer innovation. Besides overcoming wasteful electricity leakage, it also enhances the computer performance while eliminating eco-unfriendly lead and halogen materials, he added.
Dubbed as biggest transistor advancements in last 40 years by Intel Co-Founder Gordon Moore, the officer informed that the 45 nm processors were the first to use Intel's Hafnium-based high-K metal gate formula for the hundreds of millions of transistors inside the processors.
The Intel Core, 2Extreme and Xeon processors were also the first to be manufactured on the company's 45-nanometer manufacturing process, further boosting performance and lowering power consumption.
He said combining these two advancements with new processor features enabled Intel to continue delivering faster and more energy-efficient processors that were better for the environment.
The breakthrough had cleared the path for Intel to design products that were 25 per cent smaller than previous versions and thus more cost-effective as well as the ability to pursue new ultra mobile and consumer electronics ''System on Chip'' opportunities, he added.
The new 45 nm processors boast nearly twice the transistor density of previous chips built on the company's 65 nm technology, that was up to 820 million transistors for quad-core processors, each using Intel's new formula he said.
The application of new processor would boost performance for Multimedia, gaming and graphics use, speeds up scientific applications, 3D and content creation, achieve higher performance at the highly threaded data intensive operations and reduce CPU idle power resulting in extended battery life, he added.
Mr Ravichandran said the pricing of the 45 nm Hi-k Intel Xeon processors depended on the model, speeds, features. It ranged from 177 Dollars in quantities of 1000, he added.
He said the 45 nm Hi-k Intel Core 2 Extreme Qx9650 quad core processor was priced at 999 Dollars in quantities of 1000.
