Peddapuram, Nov 12 (UNI) Three people, including a six-year-old girl and an aged woman died due to diarrhoea, while 304 people were admitted to Government Health Centres and Government General hospital in Peddapuram and Kakinada, respectively, according to Peddapuram Revenue Divisional Officer(RDO) K Natraj.

Talking to UNI, he said while three died in their residence, 248 people of the 304 who were hospitalised had been discharged after being provided medical treatment.

Mr Natraj confirmed that only three people succumbed to diarrhoea even though media reports had stated that seven people had died.

He said as many as 60 doctors and medical staff were involved in the treatment of the cases in the two hospitals.

The outbreak of diarrhoea was mainly due to contaminated drinking water, following leakage from underground pipes, he said, adding the water samples, including from borewells have been sent to Kakinada hospital for examination.
