Chavan stays land acquisition order for SEZ

Kolhapur, Oct 17 (UNI) Maharashtra Industry Minister Ashok Chavan today stayed the state government order of land acquisition of farmers under the special economic zone (SEZ) at Vathar, Vadgaon and nearby villages of the district.

Mr Chavan stayed the government order after a deputation of agitating farmers, led by CPI senior leader Govind Pansare, Maharashtra State Kisan Sabha general secretary Namdev Gavade and MLA Rajiv Awale, met the Minister in Mumbai today, according to a release here.

The Minister assured the deputation that the state government would not allow the acquisition of agricultural land. Farmers should cultivate their lands and in case they wanted to sell the land, then they should sale their lands to Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), the release added.
