3 powerful bombs found under a bridge in Cachar, defused

Silchar, Oct 14 (UNI) The Army and CRPF bomb squad today defused three powerful bombs planted under a bridge near Sonai in Assam's Cachar district yesterday.

Police here today said the incident has triggered panic in the area, dominated by minorities, during the on-going celebrations of Id-ul-Fitr.

Police said on the basis of intelligence report, the Army and CRPF conducted a search operation at Sonai-Matinagar-Didarkhush Road last night and recovered three Improvised Explosive Device from under two pillars of Thakuria bridge over Sonai river.

The area was cordoned off and traffic on the road was stopped till the bombs were defused by Army Bomb squad at about 1000 hours.

Even as no militant outfit has taken any responsibility of the incident, police have started operation in the area to nab the miscreants.

Cachar Superintendent of Police Satyen Gogoi said the outfits were out to disrupt the Id and Durga Puja festivity in Barak Valley areas of the state and hence they have tightened the security in and around the area.

He also urged the people and the puja committees to be careful and maintain strict vigil near the pandals.
