Panaji, Sep 26 (UNI) Endorsing the view of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Francisco Sardinha, the Goa Congress Legislative Party (GCLP) here today favoured nomination of only the Congress candidate for the by-election to the Mormugao Parliamentary seat to be held on October 30.
Disclosing this to mediapersons after the CLP meet at the official residence of Chief Minister Digambr Kamat, Goa Assembly Deputy Speaker and the GCLP spokesperson Mauvin Coudinho said the name of the candidate would, however, be finalised by the party high command.
The CLP also congratulated the newly appointed National Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi and B K Hari Prasad, who replaced Margret Alva as in-charge of Goa desk in the recent reshuffle.
Social Welfare Minister Pandurang Madkaikar, who was also present at the meet, said the goverment had made provision of Rs 5 crore to give subsidy to the economically-backward classes in Goa for construction of new houses.
The subsidy of Rs 50,000 for new house construction, Rs 25,000 for repair of old houses and Rs 10,000 for kiosk owners, besides Rs 25,000 for the self-help women group for business promotion, would be given at the year-end, he added.
