Five cops sustained injuries in clash in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad, Sep 24:t least five policemen sustained injuries while controlling rioters in Samsher Baug locality of communally sensitive Gomtipur area of the city late tonight.

According to the police sources, four constables of city police and one SRP Jawan sustained injuries when people of two different communities clashed during the celebrations of Team India's victory against arch rival Pakistan in Twenty20 Cricket World Cup final played at Johannesburg in South Africa.

The trouble started when the celebration of one community was objected by a group of another community, which soon resulted into stone pelting at each others.

However, police party soon reached to the spot and fired 14 rounds and several teargas shells to quell rioters. Police could not confirm of anyone injured in police firing.

Though the situation has been brought under control after dispersing the rioters. The patrolling has been intensified in the Gomtipur and surrounding sensitive areas, police sources said.
