Surat, Sep 18 (UNI) One person was killed in a clash between villagers and Gowraksha Samiti activists at village Kosadi in Mangrol taluka of the district, sparked off over hiding of beef in the village today.
A group of 15 Samiti activists this afternoon entered the village suspecting that a large quantity of beef had been hidden in the village. When the villagers came to know about the presence of the activists and that they are searching for beef, the villagers pelted them with stones.
In the incident, an activist, Jasu, was killed on the spot after he received grievous injury, while other activists escaped from the spot. The news of the attack on Gowraksha members spread like wild fire in neighbouring areas, police said.
Effectively, 8 shops were burnt in the nearby Mausali village.
Surat Deputy Suprintendent of Police (DSP) Brijesh Kumar Jha rushed to the spot with the policemen. The situation in Kosadi and Mausali villages is under control, they added.
