7 killed as heavy rains lash North K'taka

Bangalore, Sep 18 (UNI) Seven people, including a woman and an infant, were killed and several injured in rain-related incidents even as copious rainfall affected normal life in North Karnataka.

According to official sources here, R M Chawadi (35), a police constable and rescue team member, was washed away while crossing a overflowing 'nala' due to flash floods in Hadli Village of Gadag District. Kallappa Sangappa Megur (65) was killed when his house collapsed in Antur Bentur Village in the same district.

A 45-year-old woman was killed when her house gave way in Chammahalli Tanda in Davangere.

Two unidentified persons were killed in Huvinahadagali Town when their houses collapsed due to heavy rainfall early today.

An infant was killed in a house collapse in Pattadakal in Bijapur District, while an unidentified person was killed when lightning struck at Mallakalli in Raichur district.

Arahatti Village in Navalgund Taluk was completely covered with flood water. Hundreds of houses have either collapsed or completely damaged.
