Dr Salunkhe gets Bhai Madhavrao Bagal award

Kolhapur, May 22: Noted thinker and renowned writer Dr A H Salunkhe has been selected for this year's Bhai Madhavrao Bagal award instituted by the Madhavraoji Bagal Vidhyapeeth, Kolhapur.

Announcing the name of the awardee at a press conference here today, Bagal Vidyapeeth chairman Baburao Dharwade said the annual award, incepted in 1992 to perpetuate the memory of noted social worker late Madhavrao Bagal, is given away to an individual for outstanding contribution to the society.

Dr Salunkhe will receive the award at the hands of educationist P B Patil at a function to be held here on May 28, coinciding with the 111th birth anniversary of Madhavrao Bagal. Shivaji University vice chancellor Dr Manikrao Salunkhe will preside over the function, he said.

Earlier recepients of the award include present Union Energy Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, noted actor Nilu Phule, Planing Commisson member Dr Bhalchandra Mungekar, noted journalist Kumar Ketkar, veteran PWP leader N D Patil, ''Chitralekha'' editor Dynanesh Maharao and others, he added.
