President to open LaCONES

Hyderabad, Nov 20 (UNI) Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) Director Lalji Singh today announced President A P J Abdul Kalam would inaugurate a state-of-the-art laboratory for Conservation of Endangered Species (LaCones) by the end of this year.

Speaking to newsmen here, Dr Singh said the President would open the indigenously built LaCONES for undertaking projects to make use of biotechnological intervention for the conservation of endangered animals in the country.

Claiming the new research centre could be the first of its kind in the world established with the assistance of Department of Bio Technology and the Central Zoo Authority, Dr Singh said the laboratory had facilities for establishment of gene banks, semen analysis and cell bank.
