Gunpowder masala recipe

Milagai or chilli podi or gunpowder is easy to make, can be stored for long and is the best accompaniment with idlis and dosas
It is easy to make and here is the recipe for it
You will need chana dal, urad dal, red chilli, sesame seeds, sunflower oil, salt and hing
First add a tbsp of oil and fry half cup chana dal till it turns brown. Let the plate cool down
Now fry half cup urad dal till it gives an aromatic smell and mix the chana dal and kept it aside
Fry 3 tbsp of sesame seeds and when it crackles remove from the flame and let it cool with the dal
Now add a spoon of oil and fry 20-25 red chilli till they turn bright reddish. Ensure that they are not burnt. Now let it cool down
Put the roasted chilli powder in a mixer and all all the fried dal, and a pinch of hing and then grind them
Now add the salt and keep grinding it until the mix resembles a powder and is of the required consistency
There goes. Your gunpowder masala is ready
