Flower backs Strauss as England's ODI skipper

By Super Admin

London, Jun 8 (ANI): England coach Andy Flower has backed Test skipper Andrew Strauss to lead the side in ODIs, trying to put aside speculation over his replacement as one-day captain when the 15-man squad is announced on Thursday.

"Andrew Strauss will be captaining in the one-dayers. He is a fine leader and a fine batsman and has done some really good things for us in one-day cricket," Flower said, as England plays Australia and Bangladesh in the ODIs.

Flower said that Strauss is a specialist in facing fast bowling and bats aggressively up front, The Telegraph reports.

"He has been the architect of the attacking type of cricket England's one-day side has been playing recently. Over the past 12 months, he has played some very good limited-overs cricket and, in a way, he was the catalyst for the attacking cricket we have been able to play in Twenty20."

"If we think it's right to go elsewhere then we will do that... We will think long and hard about it but at this moment in time Andrew Strauss is the captain of the 50-over side," Flower said.

Strauss took rest during the winter in order to keep him fresh for the Ashes, but its success cannot be judged until that series is under way in late November. (ANI)
