Cricket Wellington chief reassures that under 16s' are safe in India

By Super Admin

Wellington, May3 (ANI): Cricket Wellington chief executive and team manager Gavin Larsen has assured anxious parents of the Kiwi under 16 team members that they are free from danger.

The under-16 team had arrived in India earlier amidst heightened security concerns after the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand had issued a warning about terror attacks in the country.

Some parents had phoned Larsen seeking assurances the team was not in danger.

"We reassured them pretty quickly that it's all business as usual and nothing has changed in our neck of the woods," stuff.co.nz quoted Larsen as saying.

However, New Zealand Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully questioned the team touring India "You'd need quite a good reason to go anywhere in India right now," he said

Before the team left, the management got a safety report from security expert Reg Dickason, who told them to hire a local security liaison officer and educate players about the importance of "commonsense safety".

The parents had pooled in over 4000 dollars to seek professional security advice for their children. (ANI)
