Melbourne, Jan 15 (ANI): Former opening batsman Matthew Hayden will captain the Australian Prime Minister's XI when it hosts the West Indies for the annual tour match in February.
Prime Minister Kevin Rudd made the announcement while enjoying his last day of holiday at the third Test in Hobart.
"Captain of the PM's XI this year, I'm proud to announce, will be Matty Hayden," he said, while sitting in the stands at Bellerive Oval.
"I think it's always important for a Queenslander to back a Queenslander," The AAP quoted him, as saying.
Earlier, the Prime Minister impressed with his bowling skills in an impromptu game - albeit against a team of five-year-olds.
"I managed to dismiss two of them, and looked like a cruel and oppressive Prime Minister as a result," Rudd said.
The Prime Minister's XI will be held on February 4 in Canberra, the 32nd staging of the annual match. (ANI)
