'Being a mother and wife is obviously my first priority,'says Clijsters

By Super Admin

New York, Sep.15 (ANI): US Open woman's champion Kim Clijsters has said that while it is nice to win a Grand Slam title after two-years off the circuit, being a mother and a wife is her first priority.

"Being a mother is obviously my first priority, and being a wife. My sister is about to have a baby in a couple of weeks and those are really important moments that I want to be home for," the bubbly Belgian said after her win over Danish player Caroline Wozniacki.

Clijsters also said that she hopes to complete some unfinished business in Melbourne after her amazing US Open triumph.

Clijsters said a return to Melbourne Park in January for the 2010 Australian Open is definitely on her jam-packed agenda.

Formerly engaged to Lleyton Hewitt and affectionately known as "Aussie Kim", Clijsters is as popular in Australia as anywhere in the world.

She is a five-time Australian Open semi-finalist and lost the 2004 final to fellow Belgian Justine Henin.

The Melbourne grand slam was Clijsters' last major tournament in 2007 before her 27-month "retirement" to get married and start a family with former US basketball star Bryan Lynch.

Cradling the US Open trophy in one arm and 18-month-old daughter Jada in the other, Clijsters says she's proud if she's provided a message for mothers the world around with her astonishing feat in New York.

"If I inspired them, great," she said after becoming the first mother since Australian great Evonne Goolagong Cawley at Wimbledon in 1980 - and only the third in the 41-year Open era - to win a grand slam. (ANI)
