Hughes likened to Sir Don, but its water of a duck's back for him

Durban, Mar.12 (ANI): Australia's new opener Phil Hughes is already being compared to Sir Donald Bradman after scoring two centuries in the Durban Test.

Though he is not the Don, the similarities are there.

According to Fox Sports, Hughes is small in height as was the Don, has shown a hunger for making runs consistently just as the Don, his technique is highly unusual as was the Don's, he comes from the bush just as the Don, and possesses the kind of unflappable temperament that fast bowlers, opposition captains, coaches and media hype can't bring down just as the Don.

The 20-year-old made 115 and 160 in this week's second Test in Durban against South Africa, earning the man-of-the-match award and the world record for being the youngest player in Test history to score two hundreds in the same match.

"It has definitely been an exciting two weeks and something I'll never forget," Hughes said in reflection.

"To get in the side, and to be 2-0 up, it's just a great feeling to be around these guys.

"To spend time in the middle with Ricky Ponting and Katto (Simon Katich) and these guys at the top of the order, it has been unbelievable."

Hughes is averaging 87.50 in Test cricket, and was probed again about his closeness to Bradman's famous 99.94 average.

"That's all you guys just hyping it up. You hear that type of thing," Hughes replied with a smile.

"I like to take it day by day and just keep it simple and go on to the next game and just not look too far ahead really.

"Enjoy the match you are playing - I have played two Test matches now and thoroughly enjoyed them and I'm looking for the third (but) I don't want to look too far ahead."

Australia captain Ricky Ponting says he didn't know Hughes at all a few weeks ago and used the team's first week on tour in Potchefstroom to learn a bit more about his new opening batsman.

"I'd seen a bit of him on the television, heard a lot of good things coming back about him from his NSW teammates," Ponting said.

"They came out all guns blazing in the second innings in Jo'burg. I got to spend a bit of time with him then.

"I made sure I was around him and the bowler when a few of the verbals were taking place just to see how he was handling it.

"Every time he would just look at me with a smile on his face and tell me that he was loving it.

"Phil showed that he really enjoys that so far ... if he continues to do that as much as he had over the last couple of weeks, I'm sure he'll have a great career," said Ponting. (ANI)
