Dream debut makes kreja Australia's first choice spinner

By Staff

Melbourne, Nov 9 (UNI) After taking eight wickets in his debut match against India in the ongoing fourth and final Test at Nagpur, off-spinner Jason Kreja has become the Australia's first-choice spinner for the upcoming season.

''It was an honour for me to be here in the first place,'' Krejza was quoted as saying by 'The Age'.

''Being one of the spinners to get selected to play against India and for me to play a Test was an even greater one. It never worried me. I knew I was going to get a go at some stage.

''The pressure of expectation means nothing to me once you're out there. You just bowl the way you do and try not to think about anything else,'' he added.

The 25-year-old Tasmanian had scalped Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag, VVS Laxman, Sourav Ganguly and four others in the first innings of the ongoing Test and his remarkable start will take some living up to as he seeks to become Australia's first-choice spinner.

Krejza knows that Australian skipper Ricky Ponting has prepared to persist with him when all hell is breaking loose, as it was when Sehwag went on the attack and Krejza conceded 32 runs from his first three overs.

''With me going for some runs, to have him keep backing me gave me the confidence to keep doing what I do,'' he said.
