WAC Inter Area Athletics Championship begins

Jalandhar, Oct 15 (UNI) The Western Air Command Inter Area Athletics Championship today started at Air Force Station Adampur.

Players of six areas under Western Air Command---Adampur, Hindon, Pathankot, Sirsa, Bathinda and Jammu--are participating in the championship.

The aim of the championship is to select potential players to represent Western Air Command in the forthcoming Air Force Athletics Championship.

On the inaugural day of the championship, Sgt RK Khanna of Adampur got first position in 200 mtrs race, while LAC Bajrang Singh of Pathankot and LAC SS Kumar of Adampur stood second and third, respectively. In shortput event Cpl Verghese of Bhatinda, Cpl SK Maharana of Jammu and Cpl KK Singh of Adampur stood first, second and third, respectively.

Cpl T khamrang and Cpl S Nagar of Hindon area got first and second position respectively in 500 mtrs race, whereas LAC Dilip of Pathankot got third position. In long jump, LAC K Kush of Sirsa, LAC Pratap of Adampur and LAC SB Pillai of Pathankot got first, second and third position, respectively.

4x100 mtrs relay race was clinched by Adampur, while Pathankot and Bathinda stood at second and third position respectively in relay race. In 20km walk, LAC RL Gupta of Bathinda stood first, whereas NC (E) TS Nagar of Adampur got second and LC Raghu of Bathinda stood third.
