Dada's retirement will have no effect on seniors: Kapil

By Staff

New Delhi, Oct 8 (UNI) Former legend Kapil Dev today denied that the retirement of Sourav Ganguly will put additional pressure on senior players in the Indian team.

''They have played enough cricket and have experience to handle the pressure. You will always miss a player of Sourav's ability. A player of his capability cannot be replaced overnight.

But we have to move ahead,'' Kapil told mediapersons here.

''The senior players must be allowed to leave on their own terms. But you have to bring up the youngsters also,'' he added.

The former World Cup winning captain admitted that he was an ardent admirer of the Bengal southpaw.

''Apart from his ability on the off-side, I liked his character.

Sourav is a very strong character and does not take things lying down. He will speak up whatever is in his mind. I like him for that,'' Kapil remarked.

When asked whether he will like to see Ganguly playing in the ICL, Kapil said,''he is playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL), let him play there. He is needed in the IPL also.'' Ganguly, who announced his retirement yesterday, will leave the international arena at the end of the four-Test home series against Australia which starts in Bangalore tomorrow.
