GSRA honours Bindra with life membership

Ahmedabad, Aug 11 (UNI) Gujarat State Rifle Association (GSRA) has honoured Abhinav Bindra with a life membership of the Association for winning India's first-ever Olympic Gold Medal in individual event at Beijing Olympics.

GSRA Secretary and Vice President of the National Rifle Association of India Ajay H Patel said, ''It is a matter of great pride and honour for all Indian's that Bindra has won the first-ever Olympic Gold Medal in individual event.'' He said ''We are also specially overjoyed as Bindra had won the first gold medal in the 10m Air Rifle Competition at the G V Mavlankar All India Shooting Competition held here during 1996.

Patel said headquarters of National Rifle Association was in the city before being shifted to New Delhi. The Rifle Club of Ahmedabad was the first to create a world class 10m cover shooting range with automatic target changing with 30 lanes, which was the first of its kind in the whole of Asia.

While extending their congratulations to ace shooter, Mr Patel said, ''We will work hard and make all necessary arrangements to create more and more Abhinav Bindras in the years to come.'' UNI PVN RN RKM HT1945
