Essex player clubs world record 16 sixes in T20 match

By Staff

London, June 25 : Essex star Graham Napier clubbed a world-record 16 Sixes in the Twenty20 Cup.

Napier smashed 152 not out in 58 balls in a match-winning knock against Sussex at Chelmsford on Tuesday.

Later, he described his feat as awesome - a dream.

"I was seeing the ball well, middled one or two and even those that didn't come off the middle still went for six - and it felt fantastic!" The Sun quoted him, as saying.

Napier's 152 out of Essex's 242-3 was the highest ever score in the Twenty20 Cup.

He was six short off New Zealander Brendon McCullum's best in any Twenty20 match. The Kiwi hit 158 off 73 balls for Kolkata in the opening IPL tie in April in Bangalore.

But Napier's 16 sixes beat McCullum's record of 13.

Sussex bowler James Kirtley was whacked for 67 off his four overs - the most conceded in an innings - in the 128-run loss.
