Paes-Dlouhy move in to pre-quarter finals at Gerry Weber Open

By Staff

Halle, Germany, Jun 9 (UNI) India's Leander Paes and his partner Lukas Dlouhy handed a straight-set defeat to Marcos Baghdatis and Olivier Rochus to advance to the pre-quarterfinals of men's doubles event of the euro 713000 Gerry Weber Open here today.

The fourth seeded Indo-Czech pair took an hour and nine minutes to overpower the unseeded Cyprus-Belgium combine 6-2 7-6 (6) in the first round of the grass court competition, which is a warm up event for the Wimbledon Championships.

Paes and Dlouhy did not have any trouble in winning the first set as they converted two of the four breakpoints that came their way.

However, in the second set, Paes and Dlouhy were given a good fight by their rivals as the game went to the tie-breaker.

But Paes along with his new doubles partner emerged victorious as they proved better than their opponents.

The Indo-Czech pair will now face the winners of Julien Bennetean/Michael Llodra vs Michael Berrer/Tommy Hass match.
