Mohammad Asif's hearing postponed to June 8

By Staff

Dubai, Jun 5 (UNI) The ordeal of Pakistan pace spearhead Mohammad Asif has just been prolonged with his hearing, which was due today, being postponed to June 8.

''The case will be presented before a Dubai court on Sunday.

Asif has not been charged with anything as yet,'' Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) human resources director Nadeem Akram told mediapersons here.

Asif will be in custody at the Dubai International Airport detention centre till then.

Akram further informed that prosecutors had received the results of the seamer's blood and urine tests yesterday, while a report on the analysis of the powder was obtained today.

''The results of Mohammad Asif's blood and urine tests have been received,'' he said. ''The test results were delayed because Dubai is going through a period of mourning following a death in the royal family.

''The public prosecutor will make a decision whether to press charges or release Asif only after reviewing those reports.'' However, the outcome of the tests have not been received by the PCB.

The 25-year-old Asif, who was returning to Lahore from Mumbai after playing for the Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League (IPL), was held at the Dubai airport after a small quantity of powder was found in his wallet by customs officials.
