Mumbai, Jun 2 (UNI) While the first season of the IPL, which came to an extravagant end, continues to draw a lot of criticism from various quarters, the ICC chief David Morgan congratulated the BCCI and Lalit Modi for their efforts and said the lucrative tournament had changed the face of domestic cricket across the globe.

''It has provided opportunities for other cricket playing nations (to take it forward). It has got widespread appeal and has attracted new audiences to the game,'' Morgan said at the closing ceremony of the IPL yesterday.

Speaking on the occassion, Moragn said the IPL has attracted new audiences, especially the young generation and he hoped that these people, who came to watch the Twenty20 matches in large numbers, will also come to the stadium and will enjoy the other formats of the game.

''I'm proud that Twenty20, a format first developed by the England and Wales Cricket Board, had such a widespread appeal, bringing in new, wider and young audience, which ICC welcomes,''he said.

He also stated that those who are associated with cricket were fortunate as no games as much variety as cricket have.

''Twenty20, which thrilled so many people, one-day cricket which is equally thrilling and Test cricket, the pinnacle. In fact, last week all three formats were evident with two great Test matches in Kingston and Manchester,'' he concluded.
