Mumbai leg of Boost Cup cricket schools tournament launched

Mumbai, Jan 23 (UNI) An inter-schools cricket tournament for the Boost Cup in the city was launched here.

The Boost Cup has already been concluded in Bangalore, Chennai, Tamil Nadu districts, Punjab, Delhi, Baroda, Hyderabad with Mumbai being the last.

Addressing the launch function, GlaxoSmithKline General Manager - Nutritional T S Dayanand said that this Boost Cricket Cup is for boys under-17 and will consist of the qualifying teams of the elite group of Harris and Giles Shield along with six teams from Thane district vying for top honours. The 30 teams will play on a knock-out basis with the winning team earning the right to represent the city.

The Boost Cup, one-day tournaments will begin its Mumbai round under the aegis of Mumbai Schools Sports Association and is being promoted by Procam International. The tournament will start on January 30 and will go on till February 15, with the winner of the Mumbai leg to get cash award of Rs 18,000 and runner-up Rs 12,000 besides attractive trophies, it was announced at the launch.

Schools from 18 cities will feature in the Boost Cup Inter-City Championship with the winning team being crowned as the champion cricket school team of the country, it was stated on the occasion.

Following this championship, 20 of the top players would be selected for a seven-day coaching camp to be conducted by leading ex-cricketers. From these 20, five of the best would be declared as 'Ratnas' and awarded with scholarships.
