Taupo, New Zealand, Jan 20 (UNI) Narain Karthikeyan fought his way bravely as he craftily moved A1 Team India up the order to a 10th Place finish in the twenty minute format race here today.
From a 20th place on the starting grid Karthikeyan's 10th place finish brings home one point for A1 Team India taking its total to 28 points in sprint race, a format where qualifying is key and positions are not easy to come by.
In the feature race Narain Karthikeyan had a good start and gained one place the first corner, where several other teams spun off the track.
However, during that first fatal lap Karthikeyan ran into some trouble when A1 Team Italy seemed to pull back and when the two cars hit each other the A1 Team India car spun out and was hit from behind by another team. This rendered his car 'undrivable' - as the rear upper right fish bone was destroyed, one bent and the other broken.
''It was a disappointing end result, however, we have brought home 1 point for A1 Team India in the sprint race. I look forward to our next race in Sydney and hope to bring home more points,'' Karthikeyan said after the race.
