Chennai, Dec 31 (UNI) Chennai Open promoters IMG and premium watch major Rolex, organised a Rolex charity evening and raised Rs 11.7 lakh through auction of tennis memorabilia.
The event was organised by Indian Tennis legend and Rolex Brand Ambassadaor Vijay Amritraj.
The proceeds of the memorabilia auctioned during the charity evening were donated to Chennai-based NGO's Tanker Foundation (Tamilnadu Kidney Research Foundation) and Balavidyalaya - School for Young Deaf Children.
The Charity evening was attended by some prominent personalities including Defending Chennai open winner Xaiver Malisse of Belgium.
The total proceeds raised were Rs 11,70,000 of which, the total amount collected by the Rolex Charity Auction was Rs 8.2 lakh, Rolex's contribution of Rs 2.5 lakhs and an impromptu gesture by Mr Adi Saravanan from Allsec Technologies Limited who made a contribution of Rs one lakh.
This is the highest ever amount generated in the 13-year-old history of the tournament.
