Thanjavur temple mishap: 11 die in high-voltage electrocution

At least 11 people, including children, were killed on Wednesday after a temple car came in contact with a live electricity wire in Tamil Nadu’s Thanjavur district.
10 persons died on the spot. As per the authorities, 14 people are being treated at the Thanjavur Medical College Hospital for minor injuries while the condition of two are critical.
Eyewitnesses have said that the temple car was negotiating a turn but it met with some obstacles. The mishap occurred when the chariot was being pulled back by the revelers
TN Chief Minister MK Stalin will be visiting the spot at 11.30 am today.
As of now, 10 people died and 15 others suffered injuries in the incident. An FIR was registered in the matter: V Balakrishnan, Inspector General of Police, Central Zone, Tiruchirappalli, said.
Large number of people had gathered to celebrate the 94th anniversary of the Upper Gurupuja on Tuesday.
The deceased have been identified as Mohan (22), Pratap (36), Raghavan (24), Anbazhagan (60), Nagaraj (60), Santosh (15), Chellam (56), Rajkumar (14), Swaminathan (56) and two others.
TN government has announced ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the kin of those killed in the incident.
