Here are some lesser-known facts about the great philanthropist and industrialist
JRD Tata was born to a French mother, Suzanne "Sooni" Brière, and he spent much of his childhood in France.
Tata was educated in London, Japan, France and India.
In 1929, he renounced his French citizenship and became an Indian citizen to join the family business.
At the age of 34, he was the youngest member of the Tata Sons board.
JRD Tata became the first Indian citizen to get a commercial pilot’s license on February 10, 1929.
He was responsible for founding the successful Tata Consultancy Service, Tata Motors, Titan Industries, Tata Salt, Voltas and Air India.
JRD Tata is the only businessman in the country to receive two of India's highest civilian awards--Padma Vibhushan (1955) and the Bharat Ratna (1992) for his contributions to the growth of Indian industry.
